Hiroshi Kamiya is best known for his roles as Koyomi Araragi in Monogatari, Levi Ackerman in Attack on Titan, Yato in Noragami, Akashi Seijuro in Kuroko’s Basket, and Trafalgar Law in One Piece. He regards his new part in “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero” as the role of his life in this interview!
The May 2022 issue of the Japanese magazine “Nikkei Entertainment” was released on April 5. The magazine included information about the movie “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero” as well as an interview with one of the primary voice actors, Hiroshi Kamiya who plays the voice of android Gamma 1 in this film!

Hiroshi Kamiya is best known for his performance as Levi in “Attack on Titan” and is now starring as Gamma 1 android in “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero” a new character who battles against Gohan and Piccolo on behalf of the Red Ribbon army. Kamiya starred in “Dragon Ball GT” Episodes 1 and 25. We asked him how it felt to be a part of the cast as Gamma 1:
I was chosen to play this new role since the franchise is still on top even 25 years later and I’m still a dubbing actor. It is also one of the film’s most essential characters, drawn by Toriyama himself. It makes me very delighted to be able to participate in this. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me.
Dr. Hedo constructed the androids Gamma 1 and 2, Gamma 1 declares himself a “Super Hero” in the trailer and he is exactly that type of a character. As heroes, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 have a responsibility. Since Gamma 1 and 2 were created by Dr. Hedo, they are highly influenced by his philosophy and goals the Red Ribbon Army is an impenetrable and entirely evil organization. But the most complicated part, or at least easily misunderstood, is the distinction between Hero and Justice. For example, if justice is carried too far, it might become evil in the eyes of others, like two sides of the same coin. But a hero is still a hero for these androids regardless of the path they take. Both have a clear vision and strive to think and act in such a way that they appear heroic to everyone. That’s why without hesitation that “I’m a Superhero” line was a statement from the preview. Rather than bringing deeper insight to it, it may be more necessary for this performance to stand out as heroically as possible.
Recording with Masako Nozawa
It was an honor and a wonderful pleasure to record alongside Mako-san (Masako Nozawa), Gohan’s voice actor, particularly in the scenes where I fought Gohan. Masako Nozawa has a very relaxed attitude and doesn’t hold back anything. She portrays Goku, Gohan, and Goten but these characters appear to already live within her. She also knows herself better than anyone else and she knows exactly what sound she will have to make in any given situation which is a rare talent. It always amazes me how someone can achieve such a high level.
The entire film is a massive climax. It conveys a new level of animation, in my opinion, Toriyama sensei’s illustrations appear to have come to life. The animation and movement become more fluid as the film proceeds and it is unbeatable.

TOEI Animation’s Dragon Ball Super Super Hero is the next Dragon Ball film. The plot will take place between the conclusion of the Dragon Ball Super Broly film and the 28th Tenkaichi Budokai, which concludes the original story. Akira Toriyama will once again return to write the script as well as design for some of the characters. The film will be totally in CGI. The first trailer was shown at New York Comic-Con 2021, followed by a second one at Jump Festa 2022 and a third earlier this month. The official website for the film has launched with the latest news, videos, and Akira Toriyama’s remarks. Originally, the movie was to be released on 22 April 2022, but due to a hack of the TOEI Animation website, it was postponed to June 11, 2022.
